The board of trustees of the renowned performing arts venue has voted to be renamed the Trump-Kennedy Center, per an announcement by the White House.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated on social media that the board's approval was consensus, crediting "the unbelievable work President Trump has done over the last year in rescuing the building."

"This will be a truly great team long into the future! The building will no doubt attain new levels of prestige and accomplishment," Leavitt noted.

The intended name change is expected to be extremely contentious, especially in Washington, D.C., where the center has stood as an beloved institution since its construction and christening for President John F. Kennedy.

Background of the Institution

Not long after beginning his term, President Donald Trump fired all the center's existing board members and installed allies in their stead. The newly constituted board then voted to appoint Trump as chairman.

The president was instrumental in securing approximately $257 million in appropriated money to finance major renovations and associated costs at the historic venue.
